Funeral services were held in the Roscoe Christian church Sunday afternoon, Dec 16, for Mrs. Dora Ellen Payne, who died Dec 15 at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 25 days. For the past 14 years she had made her home with her sister, Mrs. Maude Garver at Roscoe.
Rev Harry Judd officiated at the services and burial was made in the Roscoe cemetery under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home.
Mrs Payne, the daughter of Clark and Margaret Kirland, was born in Vernon County Dec 20, 1869. She had spent all her life in Missouri and was for many years a resident of Hickory county.
In 1888 she was married to Peter Payne. Eleven children were born to the couple. Her husband and six children preceded her in death.
Immediate survivors are five sons; Oscar of Long Beach, CA, Forrest of Sabetha, KS, Alfred of Wheatland and Charley and Louis of Kansas City; three sisters, Mrs Cora Frazer, Falls City NE, May Murphey of Junction City KS, and Mrs Maude Garver, Roscoe; two brothers James B of Appleton City and Tom of Roscoe; 16 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
