NICOLAS WHITE BARHAM
April 19, 1910 - February 5, 1996

A member of the First Christian Church in Blooming Grove, Texas, Nick was preceded in death by his wife Linnie Barham, his parents, Phil and Prudie Barham, brother, Joe Barham and sister-in-law Jessie Barham.
Nick married and had his children during the Great Depression. He worked for a dollar a day (12 hours) and did without what he could not afford to buy. He believed in honesty, hard work and that your word was your bond. He raised his children this way. He never was able to have much schooling and instilled the importance of getting an education in his children. By the time the children were old enough to help in the fields picking cotton he could afford to raise his family without the children's help. He insisted, however, that the children go out to the fields after school and on Saturday so they would learn the value of a dollar. Boy did they!!
He loved his family and wanted them to have an easier life than he had. Next to his family he loved Blooming Grove. He always had tales to tell of his domino playing friends. Some tales were very wild!
In 1993 he realized he could no longer stay in his home and he made the decision to go into a nursing home. He said on one occasion, "This is the longest sentence I have ever served". The greatest and best thing he asked of his family was to take him back for a short visit to Blooming Grove. As time went on, it was just to ride through town and by his home; then he was ready to go back to the nursing home as he tired quickly.
He deeply appreciated all the visits from friends and relatives. Anyone who came to visit and could tell him anything that went on in Blooming Grove made his week. He never criticized any of his family for not coming very often and neither did he feel sorry for himself.
Today he is home in his beloved Blooming Grove, Texas and is by his wife, Linnie. His family can visit him there and know that He Rests In Peace.
