Grandson of Thomas Brooks (1760–1800) and Sarah (Boone) Brooks (1763-1848). Sarah Boone is a documented patriot of the Revolution by the DAR. Son of Mason Brooks (1789–1814) and Susanna Fitch
(1795–1842). Squire is a descendant of Samuel Boone, brother of Daniel Boone.

He married Hester (Esther) Crance on 25 Sep 1837 in Allen, Indiana.
