Married Arthur A. Gelatt, 19 Sep 1914. One daughter, Mary, born 15 Feb 1915. Aikyn was expecting another child at the time of her death. She took her own life and Mary's after receiving a letter from her husband saying he thought it would be best for them to separate. He had moved out after she threatened him with a revolver. ("Hektoen Daughter Kills Baby and Self. Chicago Tribune, Sep. 25, 1916.") Gelatt was formerly telegraph editor of the La Crosse Leader-Press, of which his father, Roland B. Gelatt, was editor-in-chief. He and Aikyn had been married secretly while attending the state university.

Arthur Gelatt, husband of the former Aikyn Hektoen, who killed her 14- month-old baby girl and committed suicide at Madison, Wis. a week ago. arrived in Chicago Tuesday night from Philadelphia. Together with his parents, he held a long conference with Dr. Ludwig Hektoen and wife, parents of the dead girl, at the Hotel Prado. It was decided at the end of this talk to forgive and forget the past. "Arthur is heartbroken and we have only the deepest sympathy for him," Dr. Hektoen said. "He went to Philadelphia to enter the graduate school of chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. As soon as he heard of Aikyn's death, he started for Chicago. We bear him no ill will and will continue to consider him as our son. Mr. and Mrs. Gelatt are also deeply shocked and grieved and have extended to us every consideration In our sorrow. We are all victims of a common tragedy." The funeral services of Mrs. Gelatt and her baby will be held Thursday at the Rosehill Cemetery Chapel. Only the families will attend. It is expected that Arthur Gelatt will go to Madison to give testimony before the tribune ordered by District Attorney Sauthoff.
