Funeral services for Riley C. Richards who died of injuries received in a fire and explosion at the local high school were held Saturday, Aug. 5 at 12 noon in the Pleasant Grove Stake House. Bishop Clyde A. Hill of the Seventh Ward presided and also gave remarks.

Speakers who told of the life of Mr. Richards were John P. Gourley, P resident T. Ardie Adams, and S. Dilworth Young of Salt Lake City. Howard Bezzant, a grandson, gave a life sketch of Mr. Richards.

Musical numbers were given by Irene Jenkins, who played an organ solo, and by Boyd and Patricia Seely, who sang a vocal duet, accompanied by Karla S. Haynie. The congregation sang the concluding number, conducted by Boyd Seely and accompanied by Mrs. Jenkins.
Family prayer was given by Joseph Rihards, invocation by W. Cornell Haynie, and benediction by Eldon Johnson. The grave was dedicated in the Salt Lake City Cemetery by Evan C. Richards.

Pallbearers were Edwin James Richards, W. Clark Richards, Willard L. Richards, Ray Lin Richards, Ronald K. Nicholes, Douglas J. Long.
Flowers and luncheon were cared for and arranged by the Seventh Ward Relief Society, and a Flag Ceremony at the cemetery was under the direction of American Legion, Post 70 of Pleasant Grove.

Mr. Richards was born on Aug 18, 1907, in Sterling, Alta., Canada, to Willard Green and Lusannah E. Clark Richards. He married Gertrude B. Musser on Dec. 24, 1934, in the Salt Lake Temple.

In 1926 Mr. Richards moved to Salt Lake City and then to Pleasant Grove in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 70. He had been a barber in the Pleasant Grove area for many years and had recently worked as a custodian at Pleasant Grove High School.

He was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church and was a high priest in the Seventh Ward at the time of his death. He was an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple.

Survivors include his widow, Pleasant Grove, one son, and two daughters, Joseph Richards of Davis, Calif.; Mrs. Clifford (Ruth) Bezant, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Marvin (Jean) Worthington, Holladay; 14 grandchildren and two brothers and three sisters, Evan C. Richards, Murray; Mrs. Jay (Elsie) Lang, Bountiful, Mrs. Mark Nicholes, Lulu Richards, and Kent Richards, all of Salt Lake City.
