Anna was third of five children: John, Mary, Elizabeth and Barbara.
In 1860, the family was living in Franklin township, Linn County, Iowa and her two younger siblings have now joined the family.
17-year-old Anna married Charles Moel, 23, who, a family story recounts, was smitten when he saw her tending cows in a field. They wed in a justice-of-the-peace ceremony on September 9, 1866 in Solon, Johnson County, Iowa.
The couple had four children (Frank, Anna Clara, Charles Jr, and Emma Clara) who lived to adulthood. Two children died in infancy (George, 1880; another child around 1888). Another family story has been told that Charles delivered all his children.
According to her death certificate, Anna's cause of death was chronic valvular heart trouble. Her husband and two additional children (Anna Clara and Charles Jr) predeceased her.
