In 1851 they removed to St. Charles going by boat around the lakes, and St. Charles has been their home during most of the intervening time. Mr. DeLong was a carpenter and many buildings in or near St. Charles and Elgin were erected by his aid or under his supervision.
In the spring of 1888 he took a severe cold which terminated in rheumatic lung fever and he never regained his former activity, although working at his trade occasionally. After a severe attack of la grippe, he contracted bronchitis, which coupled with his advancing age caused his death.
The burial was at Delton. (Delton is a village located on the Wisconsin River in Sauk County, Wisconsin.)
