Obituary published in Los Angeles Daily News on 14 Aug 2005:

AMY L. WEILAND "AMY-LOU" Passed August 1, 2005 at age 79. After cremation she will remain at home with her Husband Norbert in Gra nada Hills, California. A mass will be celebrated at a later date. She had two sons: Michael, who passed in 1993 at 44 (wife Colleen) and grand children Jennifer, Jessica and Joseph who she really loved. The other son is Dave 44 (wife Meegan) of Northridge. She has a sister Ruth in Texas, nieces Elaine and family, Nancy and family, nephew Jim and family. She also had family on Norbert's side: Dorothy, Robert Sr. (passed), Robert Jr. and family, Linda and family, and John. Amy's parents were some of the first Doctors in the early San Fernando Valley. Her Mother was one of the first woman Doctors in Los Angeles, who lived into her 90s. Amy was born in Hollywood, California in 1926... and really got a first-hand view of the changes that took place over the years in the Los Angeles area. She attended Hollywood High, San Fernando High, and UCLA, married Norbert in 1948 at the San Fernando Mission. She moved around a few times-- until she designed a home-- that Norbert, being a contractor, built himself . She loved music, playing piano and singing (memorized many songs), cooking, eating lunch out at her favorite places, and trips. They even traveled to Austria, Germany, etc. She could have anything that she wanted, but only asked for the occasional simple items (She would have probably said no if she knew we bought an urn and would want us to save the money and use a coffee can-- but that would just not be right... She did not drink coffee! She had a sense of humor as well!). She liked to read librar y magazines, books, and watch years of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She attended De La Salle church from being a founding member. She had a special charm, spunk, and feeling that will truly be missed by her friends and family. Her son Dave noted her as a very special person who was making sure others around her were doing ok. She looked after us as we were growing up. So, in the past few years, I hoped that I could repay that back when she and my Dad most needed the help. That would probably be the answer to those who wondered why I was so overly concerned about her care. On the last days I saw her, I let her know that she was loved, read notes from the family saying the same, told her that she "did good" and said "thank you". We will miss you-- We really will! We love you.
