Sarah Ann Haynes Knox was born in Tennessee to Enoch Porter Haynes, Sr. and Eleanor Sloan Haynes. They later moved to Livingston Co. Missouri. Sarah married William Shields Knox January 6, 1850 in Carroll Co. Missouri.They came to Texas by 1862 and soon settled in Kaufman Co. Texas, moving to Breckenridge by 1887. Sarah & William Knox were the parents of William Enoch Knox, Washington Irvine Knox, Martha Ellen Knox McCorkle Burns,Milburn Columbus Knox,Missouri Florence Knox Knight, Matilda Katherine Knox Phillips, and Edward Sterling Knox. William's first wife had died and Sarah was the step-mother to John Jasper Knox, Nancy Knox, Robert Luckey Knox Jonathan Andrew Jackson Knox.
Sarah died in Stephens County after her husband died in Ballenger while visiting there the previous year. he is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Ballenger.
