Charles D. ‘David’ Hamilton, 81, of Sullivan, Illinois, passed away 12:44 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

Mr. Hamilton was born October 19, 1937 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Corwin M. and Vivian I. Henderson Hamilton. David owned and operated Hamilton’s Menswear on the Square. He later was a meat inspector for the State of Illinois. David was an Eagle Scout, past member of Sullivan Kiwanis, past governor of Mattoon Moose Lodge, past Big Hat member of Sullivan Ambucs and past president of the Sullivan Area Chamber of Commerce. David was most proud that he was able to get his single engine private pilot’s license. David served 22 years in the Illinois National Guard attaining the rank of First Lieutenant and had been the commanding officer of the Sullivan National Guard Armory.

David married Nancy L. Malloy on May 31, 1959 in Sullivan and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2016.

Survivors include his son, John David Hamilton of Leigh Acres, Florida; granddaughters, Jennifer (Andrew) Gentry of Allenville, Zara Bezdek of East Peoria, Tiera (Don) Garcia of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Olivia Hamilton of Leigh Acres, Florida; great-grandchildren, Kiaus Gentry, Alexander Gentry and Sophia Gentry, all of Allenville and Rafael Sanchez of East Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Burial with military rites by the Sullivan American Legion Post #68 will be in Greenhill Cemetery.
