He was born Oct. 27, 1911, and was the son of Amos and Mitti Heatwole.
An employee of Merck and Co. for 35 years, he had been retired since 1978.
Mr. Heatwole was married to the former Geneva Steele, who preceded him in death May 13, 1979.
He is survived by two daughters, Jane Boyers and husband James of Oakton and Dorris Darne and husband Lew of Port Republic; one son, Gary Heatwole and wife Barbara of Keezletown ; one sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Vernon Flory of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Shelly Whittaker of Fairfax, James Boyers of Norman, Okla., Russell Boyers of Boyce, Melissa Johnson of Grottoes and Tara Meadows of Shenandoah. There are also seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. David Breeden presiding. Burial will follow at Keezletown Cemetery .
