Son of James Johnston(A revolutionary war veteran) and Joice Wells He was an early pioneer of Saline Township settling in the Saline Valley before 1840. He and his wife, Nancy (Berry) Johnston, were parents of 12 children with 11 in their household in the census of 1840 and the 12th child born in 1842.
