Mrs. Sue R. Schouten, formerly of Everson, died at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden on Saturday, January 18, 2003. She was 92.
Visitation hours will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Bill VandenBos on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 1:00 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden followed by memorial funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the Nooksack Valley Reformed Church in Nooksack with Rev. Charles Kleinhesselink officiating.
Sue was the daughter of John and Annie (Jansen) VanDalen and was born in Bijou, Minnesota on June 23, 1910. In 1924 she moved with her family to Whatcom County and was married to Carl Schouten in Lynden on October 31, 1931. A home maker, Mrs. Schouten helped her husband operate a dairy farm and also worked for a time as a clerk at the former Everson Mercantile.
She was a member of the Nooksack Valley Reformed Church and for many years was active in the women's bowling league in Lynden. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing various board games.
Besides her parents, Sue was preceded by her husband of 60 years, Carl, in 1991; daughter Caroline Lagerway in September of last year and sisters Louise VanderMolen, Ann VanderMeer and Etta VanWinkle.
Memorials may be made to the Christian Health Care Center; 855 Aaron Drive, Lynden 98264.
Services are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Lynden.
