Robert "Bob" / Uncle Robbie lived a full life. Born and raised in Maryland, later relocated to the Midwest where he found his success with his own business and raising his family. He loved to golf, travel extensively, and socialize with friends. He spent his last years in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and was laid to rest with Eileen, his wife of 47 years.

OBITUARY
When I think of my dad
I think of his smile; it favors one side of his mouth on a slight angle.

I think of his laugh-
I think of him telling one of his stories, I have heard so many times before
and if it were funny he would break into laughter at the same time as you!

I think of his positive character; he always saw the glass as half full-

I think of his generosity to his friends and family; he never said no.

I think of his love of life, and endless adventure to go anywhere and everywhere.
The stories he liked to share were of what he ate, rather than what he saw.

I think of his love of friends. He loved playing golf and socializing;
I think that was when he was the happiest.

I think of his success. A depression kid, second youngest of 10, who came to Chicago and through loyal and honest friendship, hard work, and his personality he thrived!
He was a business owner and an entrepreneur.

I think of his pride in his family roots. The stories he would share of growing up in Maryland, his parents, and his favorite siblings.

Lastly, I think of his contentment in his later years to sit on the pier or on one of the porches at the lake house with his cocktail and just enjoy the company of another.
I will remember that the most.

The lake house, which has meant so much to our entire family over many years was only possible because of my dad. It feels so empty without him and my mother. I will miss him as I still miss my mom, but it gives me great comfort to know he has found peace and no longer exists as he was. That was heartbreaking to endure.

Robert Magruder DeMarr was the ninth child out of ten born to Joseph Alonzo and Elizabeth Roder DeMarr. He was born and raised in Maryland. Due to a car accident at a young age, his left arm became crippled. He was considered ineligible to go to war with his siblings and friends. But his oldest brother knew someone who assisted him to do his part in the war effort. He went to the Aleutian Islands in Alaska and later Okinawa, Japan to build runways. It was during those years that he learned how to run heavy equipment. He came to Chicago for a friend’s wedding and started working in road construction. A member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and later a sales rep for Allied Chemical Corporation selling asphalt to paving contractors. He purchased multiple Barber- Greene asphalt pavers, trained operators to run the equipment, and rented his machine and operator to the paving contractors as well. He was a silent partner in one of the first Sealcoating companies, when a product known as coal tar sealer was introduced to protect an asphalt pavement surface. He later started his own Sealcoating business, which has expanded to do multiple pavement services.

Introduced to Lake Geneva by friends, he became a homeowner and the memories
began sharing this special place with everyone he knew.

His love of golf took him to Florida in the wintertime where he was a member of Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota and Lake Geneva in the summer, where he was a longtime member of Big Foot Country Club. He was always a generous donor to many organizations. And a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, as well.

His wife of 47 years, Eileen passed in 2001. I am certain she was waiting for him along with many, many great friends. His family will miss him but he was an individual who will be remembered with many stories. Never to be forgotten.

Grab mom’s hand, hug her close, and fly with the angels!

Love and tears………Linda and family
