Letha was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Brookfield, Mo. She was a student at Culver-Stockton College and Kirksville State Teachers College before becoming a rural school teacher for eight years. She was an award-winning independent life insurance agent for over 20 years and later worked at Walsworth Publishing in Marceline, Mo. for 18 years. Letha shared her passion for making beautiful quilts, crocheting, and sewing with her friends and family. She loved the country life and spent many hours in her large garden and canned hundreds of jars of vegetables. Her friends and neighbors often enjoyed her generous sharing of home baked bread, cinnamon rolls and pies. Letha loved all aspects of rural life but was particularly fond of horses. Her greatest love was her family and she treasured each visit, card and phone call.
She is survived by three sons, Duane Plank and wife Elaine of Huntsville, AL, Lyndell Plank and wife Sandra of Quincy, IL, and Curtis Plank and wife Mary Ann of Huntsville, MO; 8 Grandchildren, Gaye Mayo, David Plank, Dan Plank, Shaelene Plank, Loren Plank, Adrian Plank, Jeremy Plank, and Joshua Plank; 12 Great-Grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Tompkins; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers, James Tompkins and Conrad Tompkins, and a sister Velva (Clifton) Smith.
Funeral services will be held at Arnold's Funeral Home in Canton with the Rev. Wally Carlson officiating.
