James G Berry is listed as buried in Dodson Cemetery in the Greenfield Vedette, June 21, 1934, and other lists of Dade County veterans in later years newspapers. He was a soldier in the war of 1812 and served under Col. Samuel Caldwell in the Eleventh United States Volunteers. He was discharged in 1813.

James is a son of John W Berry and his second wife Elizabeth Robinson, married December 31, 1785, Middlesex, Virginia. John W Berry was born about 1753, King and Queen, Virginia, and died April, 1811, Hopkins County, Kentucky.

James married Nancy Mary Finley January 15, 1818, Hopkins County, Kentucky.

The 1850 District 25, Dade County, MO Census lists James G Berry, 59, with wife Nancy, 51, and children: Edward, 21; Nancy, 17; Diana, 15, and Thomas, 5. Son Thomas was born in Missouri, James and the other children in Kentucky, Nancy in South Carolina.
