Al S. Ablett, 89, of rural Granville, formerly of Peru, passed away, Thursday, January 30, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

A Celebration of Life service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Faith Church, Peru with Rev. Steve Adamson, pastor and Rev. Fred Doughty officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Mendota with full military rites conducted by the Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.

Mr. Ablett was born June 9, 1930 in Blandville, KY to George F. and Zada J. (Cowan) Ablett. He married Wanda M. Nichols on June 23, 1950 in Corinth, MS. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning to the states, he worked for 23 years for FS in Mendota and then drove a mail truck for 14 years for Henry Schuda until he retired in 1994. He was a charter member of Faith Assembly of God Church, Peru, served on the church council for 35 years and was Treasurer for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; three children, Carol (Allan) Alcorn of Peru, Joseph Allan Ablett of Mesa, AZ and Ruth (Steve) Hoscheid of Cherry; three grandchildren, Renee Alcorn, Neil Alcorn and Brent Alcorn and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elizabeth Aldy and one brother, John Ablett.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be distributed to several charities.
