After many years of searching, a newspaper article found recently confirmed Emma's death!
The families Bettge/Braune at Cottonwood have unexpectedly been saddened by the departure of Emilie (Braune) Bettge. The deceased was born on July 9, 1873 in Altenweddingen, Saxony. With her parents, she came to America and gave her hand for life to Herr Franz Bettge about 11 years ago. The marriage was a very happy one and was blessed with 2 boys and 3 girls. Until 14 days before her death she lived with her husband and children at the place of her father, Mr. Christian Braune. The family then moved to Ballinger to find a new home; but the decision was changed. As soon as she arrived, the wife and mother was seized by a violent lung infection. Despite medical art and meticulous care, she died on January 20. On the 21st, her body was brought to the old home, where it was returned to the cool earth on the afternoon of the same day. They who mourn the deceased are her spouse, 5 children, parents on both sides and other relatives. Herr Pastor hempel performed the funeral.
