Obituary

Marjorie Helen Conger, age 91, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center, Centerville.

She was born October 21, 1928 on the family farm in Tilden, Nebraska, the youngest of five children to Richard and Martha (Galyen) Childs. Kindergarten through 2nd grade for Marjorie was spent in Neligh, Nebraska. The remainder of her grade school years were in Tilden, Nebraska, graduating from Tilden High School with the Class of 1946. Marjorie then spent a year at Wayne State College, before teaching for a Rural school in Oakdale, Nebraska from 1948-1950. She spent a year at MSE College in Ottumwa, leaving there in 1951. On June 10, 1951, Marjorie was united in marriage to Charles Junior Conger in Norfolk, Nebraska. To this union, they were blessed with 4 children, Deborah, Rebecca, Julia, and Charles Mikel. After the family was established, Marjorie made the decision to further her education from 1966-1970, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Drake University. She then taught school for 19 years at Norwalk School from 1970-1990. Marjorie then retired, spending the remainder of her life in the southern portion of Iowa, starting in Blakesburg.

Marjorie enjoyed listening to Gospel music, gardening (she hated weeds), cooking, reading and bible study. She loved spending time with her family and being part of the Card Ministry, sending out notes or greeting cards in order to lift people up and encourage them. She was a member of the Orleans Church of Christ.

Left to cherish Marjorie’s memory are her children, Deborah Conger of Iowa City, Iowa, Rebecca Conger of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Julia (Al) Azarm of Germantown, Maryland, and Charles Mikel Conger of Clive, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jason (Brandy) Tillotson, Tasha (Ben) Hagy, Erin (Larry) Lucas, Ramin Azarm and Negin Azarm; eight great grandchildren, Kiersten, Waverly, Jensen, and Grady Tillotson, Everly and Zoe Lucas, Etha Hagy, and Mason Azarm; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of almost 66 years, Charles Junior Conger; her parents, Richard and Martha Childs; her in-laws, Charles and Clittie (Mikels) Conger; her grandparents, Edwin and Inez (Robbins) Childs and James and Lucy (Murphy) Galyen; and her siblings, Lyle Childs, James Childs, Ralph Childs, Audrey (Childs) Heese, and Richard Childs.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Orleans Church, 22063 330th Avenue, Moulton, Iowa, 52572, with Rev. Jerry Weller officiating.
