Don inherited his mother's interest in genealogy and inherited her research notes on the Heath Family of Hunterdon County, New Jersey, as well as their allied families. Upon his retirement from Procter & Gamble in 1989, he began to actively research his Tunison and Dennett ancestors, as well as Ernestine's Elkin and McKinney ancestors. He was a avid gardener, interested in dahlias, day lilies, begonias, hostas, and succulents until the fall of 2019. Don also faithfully worked out at the P&G Fitness Center in Mason into his 80s.
