Entertainer. He is remembered for the popular children's TV series "The Gene London Show" which ran from 1959 until 1977. Additionally, he was known nationally for his work on "The Today Show" during the program's early years. Born Eugene Norman Yulish to Jewish parents, he father was a grocery store proprietor, Gene was raised in Miami Beach. Inspired by the creations of Walt Disney, he pursued a career as a puppeteer and landed a spot as a cast member on "The Today Show" during David Garroway's tenure as host. From this experience, he went on to the TV Program "Johnny Jupiter" (1953 to 1954), where he played 'Reject the Robot.' Other shows include "Facts n' Fun" (1953), "Cartoon Klub" (1953), "Tinker's Workshop" (1954) and "Hi Mom" (1957) which starred Shari Lewis. "The Gene London Show", based in Philadelphia was widely considered a precursor of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" which was based in Pittsburgh. London became involved in the fashion industry and amassed a large collection of garments worn by such actresses as Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly. He displayed the collection throughout the United States. He died from a cerebral hemorrhage after a fall in his home.
