Jerry was born October 8, 1940 in Hubbard to Abner and Elizabeth (Mecklin) Hassell. He was raised in Hubbard before moving to Waco at the age of 21 where he would the rest of his life. Jerry worked in maintenance at several businesses around Waco over the course of his life including Consumer Gas Station, Contour Comfort Contact Lens, William Booth Garden Apartments and St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School. While working at William Booth he enjoyed driving the “Blue Goose” around town transporting the ladies for their shopping excursions. Jerry was well known around Waco, never met a stranger and was loved by all. He enjoyed old country gospel music, long walks, dogs and gardening and often supervised other family members’ gardening endeavors. Jerry was a longtime member of River City Church on Robinson Drive and while he loved his family dearly, he “loved the Lord most of all.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Virginia Hassell and brother, George Hassell.
Survivors include his wife of over 30 years, Connie (Graham) Hassell of Waco; children, Lynn Hassell and wife, Connie of Waco, Larry Rooks and wife, Janie of Waco and Belinda Chensky and husband, Christopher of Amarillo; sister, Linda Brown of Waco; grandchildren, Jimmy, Larryn, Greg, Shae and Jamie; greatgrandchildren, Joshua, Hunter, Zak, Jessica, Felicia, Nikki, Chance, Christian and Branden; great-great grandchildren, Janessa, Jason, Adalee, Joshua Jr and Parker, nephews, Mark Hassell and Michael Hassell; niece, Angela Sawyer and numerous cousins and other extended family members and countless friends.
Pallbearers will be Larry Rooks, Jimmy Hassell, Joshua Wilson, Greg Goddard, Hunter Goddard, Chuy Arceo, Zachary Nelson and Howard Wiggins.
