Shirley was born in Washington, Indiana, on April 15, 1939, to William and Stella (Terrell) Stewart. She grew up in Shoals, Indiana, and loved Indiana basketball. Shirley married Darrell L. Dean, minister, in 1964 and they raised two daughters, Tamara and Cheryl, and one son, Stephen.
Shirley spent her early career working in a drapery factory with her mother in Loogootee, Indiana. She served alongside her husband in various women's and children's ministries. She worked for Dillman Eye Care in Danville, Illinois, Belltone Hearing in Anderson, Indiana, and various other offices throughout her life. She loved serving her family, was meticulous at cleaning, loved selling jewelry, collecting plates and bells, baking cookies, and read thousands of books and magazines.
Survivors include two daughters, Tamara Danette (Gerry) Rolph, Cheryl Lynn Dean; granddaughter, Brooke Nicole Spicer, and grand dog, Abby Grace.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, William C. Stewart and Stella M. Terrell Stewart; siblings, Juanita (Sue Kidwell), William J. Stewart, Hershall L. Stewart, Grace Irene Bell, Edith Stewart, and Margaret Stewart; her husband, Darrell Lee Dean; and son, Stephen Matthew Dean.
Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013 with Pastor Kent Stookey officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
