Williams Pierce was born October 19th, 1841 in Missouri, to Mary (Burdine) & John Lindsey Pierce. He served in Co. K, 1st AR Cavalry, USA. He apparently died at home, due to 'congestive chills' which 'incurred at Clipper Mills, Carroll County, Arkansas.'
His burial site is unknown, but he is likely buried near where he died, since it was during the war, and most of the men were gone off fighting.
The muster roll for Co. K states he enlisted on February 13th, 1863 in Washington County, Arkansas and deserted on September 13th, 1863 at Cassville, Missouri.
Evelyn Flood, in her Kinfolks article, writes;
It is unknown where he is buried, but he is entitled to a military marker if someone would apply.........His mother Mary Burdine Pierce applied for his pension in 1890 and so we know she was alive at that time. She also homesteaded 80 acres in Section 15, Township 15 North, Range 20 West in 1889 and proof of Homestead was filed in 1894. The exact date and place of burial for Mary Burdine Pierce is unknown by me at this time. Per William Pierce's Civil War Pension record, his father, John Lindsey Pierce, Senior died on 5 May, 1875 in Taney County, Missouri.
