Near My Lai

Mt. Eden grad killed in battle

Hayward - Mr. and Mrs. Marcell M. LeBars, 2416 Dunn Road, have been notified that their son Army Spec. 4 Steven LeBars, was killed May 15 while on patrol near My Lai, Vietnam.

Spec. 4 LeBars, 21, was a 1967 graduate of Mt. Eden High School who entered the service in March, 1969. He went to Vietnam Sept. 6 and had written his parents that he would be coming home in three months.

He was a member of the Americal Division, Company B, Sixth Infantry, 198th Infantry Group Brigade.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marcell Y. LeBars of Hayward; a grandfather, Antonio Ferreira of Oakland and several aunts and uncles.
