ALONZO MERRITT DIES AT BEDFORD

ONE OF THE OLD TIME RESIDENTS OF BEDFORD CALLED BY DEATH

Funeral services were held Sunday in the Bedford Ward house for Alonzo Merritt who passed away at his home last Wednesday. The house was filled to its utmost capacity with sympathetic friends and sorrowing relatives. Appropriate music was furnished by the ward choir under the direction of Mrs Esther Seymour. The speakers were Bro's Delbert Wilde and Ivan Gardner and C.W. Roos, Jos Skinner Sr. and Bishop Dana, all spoke highly of the character and life of the deceased, also gave words of comfort and consolation to his family. Jane and Percy Turner sang a duet, "Unanswered Yet". Benediction was pronounced by Bro. J.U. Moser. His remains were laid to rest in the Bedford cemetery.
Mr Merritt has been a sufferer the entire time since last winter when he had a severe attack of pneumonia and his death was caused by a complication of diseases.
He leaves to mourn his loss: A wife, Alice Merritt and the following children:
Mary Pope and Irene Calder of Garden City Utah, Emma Marks of Salt Lake City, Mattie Nicholson of Emmet Idaho, Adrin, Harvey, Claud, Jasper, Ben, Norman, Venely Maud and Jennie Merritt all of this town besides 21 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is the oldest child of Samuel and Emma Merritt, was born in West Jordon, Utah, in the year 1865, and resided there until he became a man, from there he went to Provo Utah, where he met and married Miss Alice Miles. From there he came to Bedford and has resided here until death came.
