Hastings resident Richard James Viglicky, 96, passed away Friday, January 10, 2020, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, NE.

Richard was born on a farm two miles east of Edholm, NE in Butler County to Anton and Josephine Viglicky. He was the second of four children. Richard, as well as his siblings and father, attended District 10 country school. On February 2, 1943, he joined the Army and took training in California at Camp Irwin and Camp Haan. He was shipped to England aboard the Queen Elizabeth. He had additional training in England until the invasion. He participated in campaigns in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was discharged on January 12, 1946, and joined the reserves for three years. He married Evelyn Dolezal on April 16, 1947, and worked for Pickett Buick in Schuyler. They moved with Pickett Buick to Hastings in 1957. He continued to work for JC Pickett Buick, Fred Spady Motors and Paul Spady Motors as an auto body man and body shop manager until retiring. Richard loved polka dancing, woodworking and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of over 72 years; sons, Duane (Linda) of Sutton and Gene (Lynne) of Hastings; daughters, Darline Watson (Arden) of Atlanta, NE and Shirley Nuss (Randy) of Cedaredge, CO; grandchildren, Scott Richey of Colville, WA, Rick Nuss of Buffalo, MN, Miranda Buresh (Austin) of Lincoln, Scott Croner (Becky), Brett Croner (Jeannie) both Lincoln, Joe Watson (Kate) of Shepherd, MT, Sarah Moorman (fiancé Kevin) of Glenvil, and Kim Matthews of Arthur; great-grandchildren, Dakota Richey of Kettle Falls, WA, Samantha Nuss, Ethan Nuss both of Buffalo, MN, McKenna Buresh, Carver Buresh, Tynleigh Buresh all of Lincoln, Caitlynn Croner, Andrew Croner, Jack Croner, all of Lincoln, Maxwell Moorman of Blue Hill, Mallory Moorman of Glenvil, Bailey Watson of Tulsa OK, JD McMahan (Susan) of Knoxville, TN, and Ana Ryan of Miliani, HA.

Preceded in death by his parents Anton & Josephine Viglicky; sisters, Evelyn Pollard and Arlene Ertner; and brother, Frederic Viglicky.
