Veda D. (Hensley) Gray Rector, 97, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 in her residence following an extended illness.

She was born on August 8, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant Township in Delaware County to Charles and Louise (Gilbert) Hensley. She was a graduate of Yorktown High School-Class of 1940. Veda has lived in the rural Alexandria area since 1947. She was an accomplished seamstress and did alterations for the former JC Penny and Sears stores in Anderson. Veda was a skilled wall paper hanger. She was a longtime member of the Vermillion Friends Church in rural Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands-Cyril Gray in 1963, Marshall Rector in 2002, 5 sisters, 4 brothers, Daughter-Janice Craft, Son-Roger Gray, Granddaughter-Rhonda Higgenbotham, Great-Great Grandson-Christopher Manis

Services honoring Veda’s life, legacy and faith will take place at 1 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2020 in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria with Pastor Dick Gregg officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery at Alexandria. Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday.
