Mrs. Dorothy Louise Brantley Edge was born on May 21, 1931 in Barnesville, Lamar County, GA to parentage of the late Mrs. Iola Brantley and the late Mr. Charlie Battle. She was educated in the Lamar County School System, graduating from the Holly Grove School. At an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ by joining the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a member of the choir for many years and faithfully served the church until her health began to fail. She also served as faithful member of the Lamar County Prayer Band. Dorothy was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Palmer Edge. She worked at Smith’s Shop in Barnesville, GA. She was also employed as a staff member of Hamm’s Funeral Home for a number of years serving numerous families. She enjoyed cooking and attending to her flower garden. She was known for cooking the best sweet potato pies in town. She always valued herself as a woman of style, and this was exemplified in the way she dressed. She enjoyed helping individuals in the community by collecting clothing and other items and distributing them to those in need. On Thursday, January 2, 2020, the Lord decided it was time for Dorothy to end this earthly journey, and she entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Edge; a sister, Bernice Lewis; and three brothers, A. B. Brantley, John W. Battle, and Jimmy Battle. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory five children, Juanita E. Taylor of Griffin, GA, Linda G. Edge, Larry N. Edge, and Bobby Edge of Barnesville, GA , and Nathaniel Edge of Jonesboro, GA; five grandchildren, Eric (Shelly) Taylor, Avery Taylor, Ronita (Cornelius) Brown, Kareem (Jenny) Taylor and Britney Edge; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Taylor, Ladarian Underwood, Kendra Taylor, Roland (T.J.) Taylor, and Erica Taylor; two great, great-grandchildren, Landen Underwood and Kashton Taylor; siblings, N. E. Brantley, Mattie M. Few, and Diane (Maurice) Holt of Barnesville, GA and Mary J. (James) Daniels of Riverdale, GA; a special neighbor and caretaker, Angela Tyus; a god-daughter, Dorothy Virden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends who will forever miss her presence.
