Bernice was educated in the Lamar County School System. She accepted Christ at a young age and joined the Sardis Baptist Church; later moving her membership to the Holy Grove Holiness Church in Barnesville, GA. On July 27, 1951, she became united in holy matrimony to Mr. Fred Lewis. Their union was blessed with eight children.
