She was born Dec. 19, 1933, in Marion County, to the late Harley and Ruby (Smith) Johnston.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 584 Auxiliary, Marion. Always on the go, she loved people and was known as "Granny" by all who knew her, even by her customers at Wendy's in Marysville, where she worked in her later years.
On Jan. 8, 1951, she married Charles "Bill" Adkins, who died Jan. 19, 1998.
She is survived by three sons, Darrell (Tabitha) Adkins Sr., Green Camp, Marlin Adkins, LaRue, Keith Adkins, West Virginia; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tannya Straw, on Aug. 12, 2005.
