DORA ATWATER LIMESTONE - Dora Elizabeth (Noyes) Atwater, 96, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at her son's home in Bangor. She was born May 31, 1909, in Limestone, the daughter of Ethel (Long) and Alfred Noyes. Dora graduated from Limestone High school in 1926 and later attended Abbott Academy in Andover, Mass. She was married to Donald Atwater in 1928 and was the mother of two sons, Roger and Peter. In 1928, Dora became a member of the Limestone Methodist Church where she also enjoyed her affiliation with the Wesleyan Guild and the Dorcus Circle. She belonged to the Stella Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star and was an enthusiastic member of the Limestone Garden Club in her early days. She also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a short period of time. A lifelong resident of Limestone, Dora was an avid Bridge player and up until the last couple of years, enjoyed her weekly games with a local bridge club. She maintained a sense of humor throughout her later years and was able to remain in her family home in Limestone until last summer, thanks to the generous support of the community, friends and neighbors and especially her nieces, Barbara and Jane. She is predeceased by five brothers, Warren, Linwood, Philip, Gerald and Josiah; her husband of many years, Donald Atwater; and her son, Peter Atwater. She is survived by one son, Roger; and six grandchildren, Laurie Atwater, Andrea Atwater, Rebecca Pratt, John Atwater, Jodie Stewart and David Atwater; and eight great-grandchildren. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Limestone United Methodist Church with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Internment will be at Advent Cemetery in Limestone. A reception will be held after the burial at the church. Donations in her memory may be made to the Limestone United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 2 Burleigh Ave., Limestone, ME 04750.
