Mrs. Lue Whitaker, 82, a former resident of the Iberia community, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Granite City, Ill., where she had lived since 1926.

A daughter of Washington and Jane (Brandon) Shelton, she was born March 15, 1881, near Iberia.

On March 19, 1903, she was married to Monroe Whitaker. They were the parents of six children.

Mrs. Whitaker was a member of the Church of Christ in Granite City.

Survivors include three sons, Arthur of Sanderfelt, Calif., Cleatus and Walter Clem, both of Granite City; three daughters, Mrs. Vera Lemaster of Granite City, and Mrs. Eula Baugh and Mrs. Opal Miller, both of Vallejo, Calif.; one brother, Allen Shelton of Iberia; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Feb 1, 1956; four brothers, Doward, Herbert, Edward and George Shelton, and two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Thompson and Mrs. Eliza Skaggs.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whitaker were held Sunday at Brays Advent Christian Church near Iberia with the Rev. Chris Lile officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery near Iberia under the direction of Scrivner-Stevinson Funeral Home.
