In 1841, 20 years before the War Between the States,Sam Rainer bought a blacksmith shop and some of those tools are still in the possession of his descendants almost 150 yaers later. Rainer, who was born Sept. 5. 1826, set up his blacksmith shop at the Rainer farm near the present day Boone County Airport. He operated it from 1841 until the Civil War, when Rebels began confiscating wagon wheels and other items.
