Aged Harris Planter Dies
Funeral services for Thomas Jefferson Cummings to be held today
Thomas Jefferson Cummings, 83, well known Harris County planter, died at his residence Sunday night at 8:15 o'clock following an illness of one month.
Mr. Cummings was born in Harris County Feb. 25, 1855, son of the late Martha Shippey and Tom Cummings.
Mr. Cummings has been a resident of Harris County all of his life and lived in the same house for 75 years. He was a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Cummings are five daughters, Mrs. Olin Phillips of Chipley, Georgia, Mrs. Alva Bailey of LaGrange, Georgia, Mrs. W. D. Layfield of Columbus, Georgia, Mrs. A. C. Smith of Columbus, Georgia, and Miss Kate Cummings of Harris County; three sons, Thomas Clyde Cummings of Harris County, C. F. Cummings of Columbus, Georgia and J. D. Cummings of Columbus, Georgia. Several grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the D. A. Strifler chapel. Rev. Paul Weekly will conduct the services supported by Rev. George C."
