"She has the honor of conducting the second term of public school ever taught in Rawlins County, which was held in the building now occupied as the Baptist Church. She also has the honor of teaching the last three months of the first term of public school that was ever taught in the county. This school was conducted by our present County Clerk, John S. Elder, in a little old house, part log, and part dugout, near the draw which crosses the Fairgrounds from south to north and was situated on the present Fairground site. Three months of the first term of school that ever drew public money were conducted in this building and the remaining six were taught in the Baptist Church building noted above of which three were taught by Mrs. Agan while Mr. Elder was in the east on business matters.
Thus closes the life of one of the brave, hardy pioneer women of Kansas who willingly sacrificed the summertime of life for the future benefit of posterity."
