Alvin "Sunny" Cantey, Sr. was born on January 4, 1938 in Paxville, South Carolina to
the late Joshua "JW" and the late Portia Conyers Cantey. He departed this earthly
life and was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 12, 2015.

"Sunny", as he was affectionately known, attended Paxville Elementary School
and graduated from Manning Training School. In High School "Sunny" was very
athletic and loved to play baseball. While in High School he also drove the school
bus. After graduation, "Sunny" later moved to Brooklyn, New York in pursuit of a
better way of life.
Alvin participated in the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in New York City,
and he was a member of a bowling club where he won numerous trophies and
became a champion bowler. Later on, Alvin pursued a career as a School Bus
Operator for New York State and was a taxi Cab Driver for a number of years. He
had a passion for music and entertaining others by playing his harmonica. $OYLQ·V
personality was a perfect fit for the role he played in organizing trips and social
functions for his friends. Alvin was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in
Brooklyn, NY, where he served on the Choir and as a Musician, playing his the
harmonica.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and two brothersVinVlaw.
To cherish his memory Alvin "Sunny" Cantey, Sr. leaves behind two sons, Curtis
Epperson and Alvin Cantey, Jr. both of Brooklyn, NYW four daughters, Jacqueline
Cantey Brett of Durham, NC, Linda Cantey of Virginia Beach, VA, Joyce Flowers
of Baltimore, MD, and Melanie HillVCantey of Brooklyn, NYW two stepVchildren,
Virginia Zakiyya Nelson of Brooklyn, NY, and Malik Nelson of Stanford, CTW
two brothers, Tommy (Daisey) Cantey of Macon GA, and Miles (Reverend Betty)
Cantey of ManningW three sisters, Lula C. Pack of Paxville, Bernice (Henry)
McKinney of Union, NJ and Betty J. Anderson of Newark, NJW 11 grandchildren,
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
