Big Stone Gap, Virginia- 

Velma Belcher 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Norton Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. 

She was a retired teacher, from the Lee County School System. She was of the Christian faith, and believed in living simply. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart Stidham and Dorothy (Albright) Stidham, her husband Charles Belcher, her four sisters; Rubye King, Jean Stipes, Marie Roberts, and Betty Bloomer. 

She is survived by her six children; Steve Belcher his wife Dobie, Nina Holmes, Debbie Moore her husband Robert, Chuck Belcher his wife Lauren, Nan and Lynn Shelton, Michael Belcher his wife Rhonda, grandchildren; Kelli Wilson her husband Chris, Chris Belcher & Veronica, Elizabeth Witt her husband Ryan, Travis Belcher, her great grandchildren; Connor , Sophie, Katie, Everett, Loren, and Noah, other close relatives friends. 

The family would like to express gratitude for the care that their mother received from the staff in the I.C.U. unit ,at Norton Community Hospital. 

The family will receive friends for a graveside service at 1 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2019 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

The service will be officiated by; Steve Belcher and pastor Jim Farmer. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home by 12:30 to go in procession to the cemetery. 
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
