Erskin Howard Long, 73, of Etowah, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 2005, at Etowah Health Care Center.

A native of Monroe County and a resident of McMinn County for the past 42 years, he was a son of the late June and Lula Miller Long. He was a retired law enforcement officer and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Goodsprings Baptist Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of the F.O.P Retired Law Enforcement. He was a former Englewood City Commissioner and was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Johnny Long; and one sister, Myrtle Fritts.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Lea Long of Etowah; two daughters and one son-in-law, Betty and Walter Locke of Benton, and Sherry Alfredo of Englewood; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bobby Long of Etowah, and Steven and Sarah Long of Athens; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Long of Tellico Plains; three sisters, Ester Jacob and Ruby Jones, both of Madisonville, and Gladys Best of Tellico Plains; and several nieces and nephews.

A Masonic service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with funeral services officiated by the Rev. Roy Chism immediately following. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at noon Thursday and proceed to Cane Creek Cemetery in Monroe County for the 2 p.m. burial with military honors provided by the Sweetwater V.F.W.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
