Agnes was the daughter of Thomas and Olivea Mayhew Downy from Canada with siblings: Delia and Jenny. She immigrated about 1878. She married James Baker about 1881 and they had 10 children with 7 surviving: Alma (1882), Joseph (1885), Docmere (1887), Matilda (1889-1902), John (1891-1902), Anna (1895-1906), Adelon (1898), William (1899), Richard (1902), and Anton (1907). Agnes died from chronic myocarditis at the age of 62 years 9 months and 29 days.
