Lela Lorene Lemon Coffelt Beckham, 93, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born August 24, 1926 to Ray and Lela Dessie Lowery Lemon in Broken Arrow, OK. She attended Broken Arrow Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1944. Lorene was the oldest of six children born to Ray and Dessie.

She married Carl Coffelt in 1946 and he passed away in September 1968. She married her second husband Paul Beckham in 1971. He passed away in September 1990.

Lorene worked for Oral Roberts Evangelist Association after Carl’s death. She later began working at Broken Arrow Public Schools Administrative Offices where she retired in 1989.
She loved camping, fishing and traveling. After Paul’s death, she went on several family vacations with Richard and Janet. She also travelled with her Golden Girls going on many cruises. She loved the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunders as she called them. She cut out the weekly sports schedule in the newspaper and kept it close by to make sure she was on the right channel at the right time.

Lorene started attending the Broken Arrow Assembly of God Church in 1942 and has remained a faithful member until her death. She served as the Harbor Lights Sunday School Secretary for 50 years retiring in 2012. Even though her health had prevented her from attending church services, she was faithful to tithe each month. She and her sister Pauline would watch the services each week at her home through their live stream video. She would even sing along during praise and worship right from her living room.

Lorene loved her family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and was given bonus children and grandchildren when she and Paul were married. She was an incredible cook who rarely followed recipes to the exact measurement. Her famous peanut butter pies were a family favorite at Christmas time and her Chocolate Pie was a worldwide favorite. Lorene was very talented in quilting and crocheting. She also loved her garden. She quilted for years at the Assembly on Tuesday mornings. Many are recipients of her most precious handmade quilts. Her final and last quilt was an airplane quilt she made for her great-grandson Davis. All the stockings that are hung each year at Janet’s house are made by her with each name crocheted on it. She even made some extras to have for future great-grandchildren. She loved her garden and had tomatoes growing just this past summer. She just couldn’t give it up. She wanted her own homegrown tomatoes. She was always in competition with her son-in-law Richard to see who got the first tomato of the year.

Lorene is survived by her son, Carl Wayne Coffelt of Broken Arrow; daughter Janet Pitts and husband, Dr. Richard Pitts of Sapulpa; step-son, Ted Beckham and wife Judy of Pinehurst, TX;
Grandchildren Dr. Adam Pitts and wife Dr. Maggie Pitts of Nashville, TN; Mindy Pitts of Sapulpa; Step-grandchildren Garry Fletcher of Tulsa, Angela Beckham of Collinsville and Kevin Metzger of Broken Arrow. Her great-grandchildren are Dax Cooper and Davis Pitts. Her step-great grandchildren are Lauren, Lindsey, Madison and Michael Fletcher.

She is also survived by her sisters Pauline Eller of Broken Arrow and Norma Arnold and Don of Grove, her brother Onis Lemon and Susan of Topeka, KS and sister-in-law Nancy Lemon of Russellville, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, step- daughters Karen Metzger and Paula Fletcher, her sister Virginia Crutchfield and brother LeRoy Lemon.
