Betty Jane (Ackerman) Buman 96 of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 20, 1923 to Albert and Anna (Johnson) Ackerman in Liberty, Nebraska.

Betty had seven brothers and three sisters. Betty attended the Union Center School in Gage county. On August 2, 1940 Betty was united in marriage to Clifford “Irish” Buman. They made their home in Pawnee City and were blessed with five children and raised foster children as their own. All children were welcomed in their home. It was a place where kids liked to “hang out”.

For many years they sponsored youth groups at Pawnee First Christian Church and DuBois United Methodist Church. They also organized “Teen Town” in Pawnee and “Mod Fricketts Popcorn Penitentiary” in DuBois for teens to gather, dance and have a good time.

Betty and Irish moved to DuBois in 1962 and started Buman’s Garage where she kept the books and pumped the gas for Irish. Besides raising a family Betty had several different jobs; Gordon’s Nursing Home as a Barber, hanging wallpaper, babysitting for her grandchildren, working at Deb’s Flower Shop and was employed at the Pawnee City Historical Society. She enjoyed raising a garden, canning, cooking, sewing, quilting and spending time with her grandkids. Betty was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the First Christian Church for over 60 years.

Betty was greeted in Heaven by her husband Irish, her son Bill and her 10 siblings.

Betty leaves to celebrate her life; her children; Arlene Buman (Bill’s wife), Linda Ketelsen and husband Denny, Dale Buman and wife Roxanne, Roger Buman and wife Jan, Debora Kerl and husband Terry, eleven grandchildren; Adrienne and Dan, Melisa and Manolo, Angela , Stuart and Amy Kay, Amee Jane and Ryan, Amanda and John, Mesha and Able, Jodi and Rob, Jessie and Matthew, Hanna and Scott, and Monica, 33 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the First Christian Church/Presbyterian Church, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Duane Westing. Visitation on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Interment at the Pawnee City Cemetery. Memorials to Pawnee County Memorial Hospital or the Pawnee City Assisted Living, In Honor of the aides and the nurses who took care of our mother!
