Mary Lundquist Hlozek, 64, of Wallis, TX, finished a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on November 21, 2019 in Houston, TX. Mary was born on June 4, 1955, in East Bernard, TX, to Frank and Josephine Felcman, where she grew up in the Wallis area and graduated from the second to last class of Wallis High School in 1973. She attended Texas A&M University and graduated with her Bachelors of Science in 1977 to begin her working career with Shell Oil in Houston, TX.

In 1979, Mary met Craig Lundquist as he finished law school. Soon after, she decided to get her teacher’s certification. As she began student teaching, she realized how much she enjoyed the process of sharing knowledge and her aptitude for it. She married Craig in 1982, and they had their first child, Anastasia Rose, in 1984. A few months after, Craig was diagnosed with brain cancer, and Mary remained at his side during his fight. When he passed away in 1988, Mary took care of her daughter by beginning a teaching career in the Katy, Wallis, and Sealy area that would last over 25 years and included a Master of Education also from A&M. She remarried and had a son, Steven Frank, who inherited his mother’s love and passion for science. She loved teaching – students, teachers, and her children.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Felcman; her husband, Craig Lundquist; her husband, Frank Hlozek; and her brother, Daniel Felcman.

She is survived by her daughter, Anastasia Lundquist of Houston, TX, and son, Steven Hlozek of San Antonio, TX. Also, surviving is her mother, Josephine Felcman; brother, David Felcman (Pam); sister, Susan Jurecka (Kirk); sister, Janie Spies (Charles); and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Throughout her life, Mary was a committed Catholic who found strength in her faith, a devoted mother who loved her children fiercely and was the type of person that brought happiness and optimism to everyone she met. Mary was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, and the Texas Retired Teachers Association.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, starting at 9 AM with a rosary to follow at 10:30 AM at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis, TX.
