Pearl Ballard McDowell, 85, of Crab Creek, died Monday, December 2, 1996, following a period of declining health.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and was the wife of Hamilton McDowell, who died in 1953. She was a licensed practical nurse and a member of the Crab Creek Baptist Church, where she formerly taught the adult ladies Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace McDowell and a son, Donald McDowell.
Survivors include four sons, Preston McDowell and James McDowell of Hendersonville, and Grady McDowell of Big Willow; a daughter, Evelyn Barker of Hendersonville; a brother, Lloyd Ballard of Kentucky; two sisters, Ada Jones and Mary Lois Beddingfield of Zirconia; 22 grandchildren; 34 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Crab Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Guy W. Smithe will officiate. Burial will follow in Crab Creek Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. At other times the family will be at the home of the daughter on Pearl Lane.
