Joyce Lorae Stahl, 86, of Sunbury, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 16, 2019, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
She was born Nov. 26, 1932, in her parents home in Liverpool, a daughter of the late Wilson Bruce Barner and Florence Euseba (Grubb) Barner. On Sept. 22, 1956 in Barner's Church in Liverpool, she married George Nicodemus Stahl who preceded her in death.
Joyce did everything well. She skipped second grade due to her intelligent mind. At 16, she attended the Central Penn Business School and then nursing school at Temple University in Philadelphia.
She worked as a nurse at the Lebanon Valley Veterans Hospital and then as a nurse and supervisor on the second shift at the Sunbury Community Hospital. She also owned and operated with the love of her life, George, a farm on beautiful Mile Hill outside of Sunbury. Through the years at this farm, Joyce and George started a pastured beef business, a Bandi egg business, sold Lo Chief sweet corn on a pink stand out by the road as well as going door to door in Northumberland with her children to sell the corn. She and George then started an orchard, planting 100 trees a year. The pink stand became a roadside stand where peaches, apples, plums, blueberries, strawberries, corn and other produce were sold. She also baked and sold apple pies at this stand. In more recent years she enjoyed transplanting flowers for her son, George, in his greenhouse in Paxinos.
You could always find Joyce in Sunday school and church on Sundays. She loved sending money to WPGM which she listened to from morning until night. She also loved supporting Christian and Missionary Alliance where George found the Lord as his personal savior. Throughout her life, she taught Sunday school to young boys, worked at a Crisis Pregnancy Center in Lewisburg, hosted many pastors and missionaries in her home for supper, held corn roasts for young people, went on many trips with George to explore the United States, was a representative with George for TEAM missions, who she also served with in Venezuela, attendedsummer Bible conferences at Summit Grove, Delta Lake and Sandy Cove. She and George went to Virginia Beach for many years. Joyce loved watching football and wrestling and sitting on her porch to look at the view. Joyce always made everyone she met and spent time with fell like they were the most special people in the world. She never had a judgmental attitude but accepted you as you were. She called her four children weekly. She taught them all to "embrace the new day with whatever God has for you."
Joyce is survived by four children and their spouses, Jeanette and Chris Campbell of Saxonburg, John and Judy Stahl of Oxford, Pa., George and Priscilla Stahl of Paxinos, and Genine and Tony Donato of East Petersburg; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Abigail Murphy of Downers Grove, Ill., Jennifer and Eric Edwards of Lancaster, Joy and Adam Ghazal of Charlotte, N.C., Jill and Brian Dunfee of Maryland, Brian and Becky Campbell of Akron, Ohio, John and Tara Stahl of Peckway, Luke Donato of Indiana, Pa., Ben and Mary Campbell of Xenia, Ohio, Phillip Campbell of Nashville, Tenn., Matt and Jessica Donato, of Raleigh, N.C., Lauren and Jon Daniels of Reinholds, Micah Donato of Charleston, N.C., and Caleb Stahl of Pensacola, Fla.; 12 great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Mason, Adam, Amelia, Evron, Lucia, Kaylee, Charlie, Charlotte, Emmanuel, Ethan and Elizabeth.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Donald; three sisters, Betty Basom, Dorothy Bair, and Nancy Barner; one grandson, Josiah Stahl; and one granddaughter, Kari Lorae Campbell.
Joyce will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She never complained during her uncomfortable illness. We know she is in heaven with her blessed Lord and Savior. A verse which described her life was Romans 12:9-12.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11.
Internment will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers, if friends of Joyce would like to, they can made a donation to WPGM, 28 E Market St., P.O. Box 236, Danville, PA 17821, a radio station Joyce listened to everyday and supported monthly since 1963.
