Oren Gene Goodwin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully in St. George, UT, on February 12, 2000, due to pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 75.

Gene was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 26th, 1925. After he was born, the family returned to their Blackfoot, Idaho, home where he was raised with his five brothers and a sister. Gene was taught early by goodly parents to love the Lord and render service to his fellow man, both of which he did throughout his life. His family moved to Idaho Falls in 1940 when Gene was 15 so his dad could work on the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. In 1943, he joined the Army and served for three years during World War II in Hawaii where he had many close friends. In 1946, he accepted a call to serve as an LDS missionary in the Southern California Mission. Upon learning of the death of his father Joseph and his brother Lennis in a tragic car accident, Gene returned home only weeks before the end of his mission to assist his mother.

He was sealed to his sweetheart, Norma Darlene Adams on May 10, 1949, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple where they lived for 19 years. Later, they moved to Bountiful, UT, where they lived for 25 years. He worked all his life in the general construction business he loved with his brothers and later his sons where he was known for his good workmanship, honesty and integrity. He loved flying and working with his hands, so he built a gyrocopter and a homebuilt airplane, both of which he flew. He was skilled in working with wood and enjoyed making things for his family.

He held many callings in the church, including bishop's counselor, high council, stake missionary, and gospel doctrine teacher. Because of his love of missionary work, Gene and Norma were called to the California Oakland Mission in 1993 to serve a proselyting mission. In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with his good friends as well as his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; his grateful children (and their spouses), Diana (Khedron Espinoza), Pamela (Gary Stout), Lenny (Gail), Joyce (Jerry Ledingham), Kara (Owen Reeder), Michael (Cristy), Steve (Jenny) and Kimberly (George Horlacher); his brothers, Barney (Elaine), LaVell (LaRue), Reese (Charlotte); and his sister, Maurine (Noel Buckley). He was preceded in death by his father Joseph, his mother Helen, and his brothers Verl, Lennis and Robert.

Funeral services will be held at the Barton Creek Ward building located at 640 So. 750 East in Bountiful, UT, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, with a viewing at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 No. Main, Bountiful, UT, on Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour before the service at the ward. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
