Willie Ray Smith was born February 24, 1930 in Titus County, Texas and passed away November 9, 2019 at the age of 89.
He went to school in Winfield and meet his wife Bessie Parrish. While in the United States Air Force they married November 11, 1951.
He was a long time member of Winfield Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Mount Pleasant. He worked at Lone Star Steel for 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bessie, mother Mamie Jewel Copeland and his sister Mamie Jean Rich.
He is survived by his son Tony Ray Smith of Mount Pleasant, three grandsons, Jeremy Ray Smith, wife Andrea and great granddaughter Sienna, Brant Smith, Casey Smith and great grandson Ronan all of Alaska. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Brittany Palmer who was his caretaker, friend and who he called granddaughter.
Visitation will be at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Chapel, Thursday November 14, 2019 at 1:00 pm followed by burial service at the Mount Vernon Cemetery.
