Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Barkley, age 82 were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Bernice with the Rev. Danny Hawthorne and Rev. Michael McIntosh officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery in Bernice under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Doris was born on October 24, 1937 in Deridder, LA to Almon and Flossie Prewitt. She passed away on November 9, 2019 in Arcadia, LA. She taught English and Speech in the Monroe City Schools and Cedar Creek where she retired. Doris enjoyed gardening, being a grandmother and great grandmother. She was reared in a very loving environment, which she passed along to her family.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Jewel Barkley, parents A.H.and Flossie Prewitt and bro ther, Marvin Prewitt.

She is survived by her daughter, Melody and husband Tom Frazier; two grandsons: Andrew Frazier and wife Jane and Travis Frazer and wife Lauren; two great-granddaughters: Mary Reid and Caroline Frazier and another great-grand on the way; brother Herbert Prewitt and wife Winnie; sisters: Verda O’Bannon, Mary Bowen Miller and husband James, Betty Elkins and Pat Elkins and husband Tom.

Visitation was from 1:00 PM until time of service Tuesday at the Church.
