Isaac died June 8, 1882 when he went out during a lull in a thunder storm carrying an umbrella to examine a ditch that was clogged up. He had wanted Gma Amanda to go out with him, but they had a reunion coming up the next day and she needed to finish sewing a new dress for it. (Grandma Amanda was a good seamstress) His brother who had left the house at the same time but in another direction looked around after a sharp crash of Thunder and lightening and saw Isaac lying on his face, his clothes on fire, and ran to him to find that the bolt had struck him on the back of the head. Isaac was killed instantly by the bolt of lightening. He was 38 years old. James (the oldest of their children) was only 7 years old.
