Gary was born on December 3, 1937, in Ashton, Nebraska the son of Hubert and Emily (Deleski) Ignowski. When he was four the family moved to Alexandria, MN. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1955. After high school he worked odd jobs for awhile and in 1957 joined the Marines and was stationed in San Francisco. This is where he met and married Diane Unger on March 19, 1960 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco. Gary was honorably discharged in 1960.
Gary worked for GTE Data as a Data Processor. During this time the family lived in Los Gatos, CA, Madison, WI, Fort Wayne, Indiana and in 1975 he was transferred to Tampa, Florida where he retired in 1991. The couple moved to Northern Florida and lived along the river which was Gary’s dream. In 2004, Gary and Diane moved back to Alexandria.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and when he turned 70 he bought a Harley and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
Gary is survived by his wife Diane Ignowski and sons, Craig Ignowski (Maureen) and Randy Ignowski (Wendy); granddaughter Kaitlyn Ignowski, grandson John Evett; three great grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Ignowski; and sisters, Dona Cassady and Sharon (Ronald) Robenson; and many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his son, Steven; mother, Emily (Deleski) Ignowski and father, Hubert Ignowski.
